Universidad de Cantabria (UC) is a modern public institution with an overall budget in 2016 of 105.9M€, whose main purpose is to contribute to social progress through teaching and scientific excellence. This allowed UC to confirm the “International Campus of Excellence” label in December 2014 with the highest score.

In terms of EU Projects, the UC has an extensive experience in international research projects and programmes, specifically in the 7th Framework Programme (2007 – 2013), but also in the first Horizon 2020 calls. UC participated in 54 FP7 projects with more than 12M€. In the first H2020 calls (2014 – 2015 WPs), it has obtained 18 projects for more than 6.5M€. It currently coordinates 5 EU projects (FP7, ERC, MSCA y ERA-NET) and in December 2014, the UC obtained its first ERC for a total of 1.5M€. FEHRL – Forum of European National Highway Research Laboratories. Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute or Zavod za gradbeništvo Slovenije (ZAG Ljubljana) is the leading Slovenian institute in the field of building and civil engineering. The organization is widely recognized both in Slovenia and in other countries by means of its experts, top-class equipment and multi-disciplinary work, including life cycle analyses of different construction materials. Its research and testing sector is divided up into four departments: materials, building physics, structures, and geotechnics and infrastructure, it also has its own department for metrology.

In the field of tasks deriving from the CPR (the Construction Products Regulation) it has two independent services: the Certification Service and the Service for Technical Assessments. ZAG is involved in the international co-operation in science and technology with institutions from the EU, the USA and other countries.

ZAG's researchers are mostly oriented towards applied research work, which also contribute to the latest scientific results. Over the last 10 years ZAG has participated in more than 50 projects funded from the EU (4th - 7th FP, H2020).

Network rail runs, maintains and develops Britain’s rail tracks, signalling, bridges, tunnels, level crossings, viaducts and stations.
